Class B North: Burgard’s O-line has size and experience

Albion Purple Eagles (4-4)

Coach: Gary Parisi, first year

Home field: Spierdowis Field

Program founded: 1898

Outlook: The Purple Eagles have some work to do as they graduated every player on both lines. What they lack in experience will be made up in size with Clayton Stanton (6-2, 240), Nathan Trembley (6-1, 260) and Mike Laine 6-0, 260. LB/WR Trey Hart was all-league a year ago as a sophomore and has started since he was a freshman. Des Blackmon is a speedy, sure-handed WR. Junior QB Kyle Smith took some snaps last year. Two other key returnees are DB Manny Thompson and TE/DE Gary Moore. Parisi was an assistant coach at McQuaid last season and has been teaching at Albion the past eight years.

Senior Josh Mead has gained speed, focus and will get more carries at RB. Joining him in the backfield will be seniors Brian Payne and Alonzo Sager. Brandinlee Woods is a 6-3, 260 sophomore who was the second-leading receiver last year at TE. Plenty of size returns on the OL: Chris Steves (6-3, 285), Elijah Haley (6-0, 220) and Chris Anderson (6-9, 270). CJ Fitch returns to the DL and serves as FB. The defensive backfield will be led by Lovon Daigler and Thomas Callaghan. There are 21 players from Roy-Hart, 11 from Barker.

Outlook: The Tigers are deep at RB and have tons of speed. “These kids are threats; I’ve never had a team like this,” said McDuffie. TB/LB Isaiah McDuffie (6-2, 205) looks to have a big sophomore year. As a result of the summer camps he attended, the Olmstead student is on the radar at UB, Syracuse and Penn State. Also in the backfield is the explosive Alexander Lofton and Andrew White. RB/LB Marcellus Colliver, up from the JV, looks to have an immediate impact. DE Tysheen Mingo looks to be a 10-12 sack type of player. Sophomore WR/CB Brandon Brown looks to utilize his speed. Freshman Jeremiah Sanders (6-4, 320) will anchor the line.

Burgard Bulldogs (7-2)

Coach: Jason Kolb, 13th season

Home field: All High Stadium

Program founded: 1930

Outlook: OL/DE Roderick Morrow is a three- year, two-way starter who has led the team in tackles the last two years. Besides being a good pass rusher, he can stuff runners at the line or chase them down. He’s the anchor of a big offensive line for the Bulldogs. Returning to the OL for a third year are Morrow, Emmanuel Moss (6-7, 300), Tiawon Moss (6-5, 270) and Laron McKinney (6-1. 280). Senior LB Darlell Sanders (6-1, 240) has a nose for the ball as well. Look for the offense to spread the ball around. RBs Marcus Hampton and Karl Jones will work in tandem again. Both have breakaway speed.

Lew-Port Lancers (4-5)

Coach: Jon Hoover, third season

Outlook: Junior QB Donald Allender (6-2, 185), made the most of his midseason call-up last year and started the last few games. He won a big game against Medina and he’s ready to have a breakout season. Allender is the nephew of former NFL player and Lew-Port grad Daryl Johnston. Allender attended Peyton Manning’s camp in Texas. The OL will be led by senior Bobby Constanzo, a transfer from St. Joe’s who brings leadership and toughness. Junior Matt Spira (6-2, 250) will anchor DL. Senior Quran Brewer gets his turn at RB. Strong defensive secondary has returning all-league corners Jake Eoute and Sam Fontanarosa.

Medina/Lyndonville Mustangs (5-4)

Coach: Eric Valley, seventh season

Home field: Veterans Park

Program founded: circa 1898

Outlook: Jason Hellwig (6-3, 180) will be a QB to watch this season in WNY. He threw for 1,158 yards and 13 TDs last year and is within reach of every school passing record. “He’s got all the tools to play at the next level,” said Valley. His two main targets will be junior Dylan Lewis and senior Ty Hrovat. They will also play in the defensive backfield. RB/DB Brett Pecoraro returns for his third year as a starter at DB and also will get a lot more carries this year at RB. Junior DE Charles Beach is a top lineman and he is joined by fellow returning starters Noah Banazwski, Adam Cotter and Andrew Nichols. Newfane Panthers (2-7)

Coach: Chuck Nagel, third season

Home field: No name

Program founded: unknown

Outlook: After spraining his ankle before last year’s opener, DE/TE Josh Wilt is determined to have a big senior year. Nagel said he’s devoted everything he has to this season and has been working out nonstop. Kyle Guerriera and Kyle Burdick are the work horses in the backfield. Both bring something different as Guerriera is shifty and agile and Burdick likes to lower his shoulder and take on tacklers. Sophomore Cotrell Jackson can help move the chains either at RB or WR. Senior QB Trevor Noon took half the snaps last year and is a smart player, to say the least. He has never scored below 100 on a Regents exam. LB/FB Jake Kubala started as a sophomore and pound-for-pound is the strongest player on the team.
