The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Buffalo-based Upstate Niagara Cooperative a contract to provide 142,700 pounds of Greek yogurt to public schools in three states through December, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer’s office said.

The schools are in New York, Arizona and Tennessee. Schumer said the entire pilot program will run through June 2015 and the USDA will soon consider bids for the next round.

“This is a major win for Western New York, as well as the entire New York dairy industry,” Schumer said in a statement.
