Wilson pot grower pleads guilty

LOCKPORT – A Wilson man whose marijuana stash was sniffed out by a sheriff’s deputy last year pleaded guilty Thursday in Niagara County Court.

Lon C. Sherrie, 50, of Shadigee Road, said his stepdaughter found her 3-year-old son with a bottle of pills in his hand Nov. 9 and thought he might have swallowed some. She called an ambulance, and a deputy who responded to the call smelled pot.

He obtained a search warrant and the ensuing raid found 4.33 pounds of marijuana, three pot-growing rooms and 14 plants in the basement and a drying room in the attic.

Sherrie pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III admitted him to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment. Sherrie faces a prison term of as long as 2 1/2 years if he fails in treatment, but will have his charge reduced to a misdemeanor with no jail time if he succeeds.
