The idea is the marriage of charity and recycling. The Western New York Coalition for Donated Goods, formed in the spring with help from the office of Mayor Byron W. Brown, is having its first clothing drive this week, with bins near the Apple store on the first level of Walden Galleria and outside Sears’ first floor entrance.
Donation receipts and value guides for tax purposes will be available.
Partners in the coalition are Goodwill, the Salvation Army, Buffalo City Mission, AMVETS and Hearts for the Homeless. This week’s collection coincides with back-to-school shopping, with the hope that Galleria shoppers will drop off usable items that will help fill others’ closets.
The coalition was formed in May 2014 with the mission of educating the community on the environmental and economic benefits of recycling and donating goods, according to the mayor’s office.
