The Buffalo team of Sandra Ferrachio and Mark Hatch defeated Joseph Broadstreet and Jane Leduc of Midland, Ont., in the finals to win the Jack & Jills Doubles Championship at the American Poolplayers Association 8-Ball event in Las Vegas earlier this month. Ferraraccio and Hatch play out of Bison Billiards in Clarence and split the title prize of $3,500.


Canisius College junior Brett Siddall has been named a Perfect Game Summer Collegiate First-Team All-American. Siddall was one of 17 players from eight summer leagues across the country to be named to the First Team. Siddall played for the Lakeshore Chinooks, who won the Northwoods League championship and was named the Perfect Game Summer Collegiate Team of the Year. The Windsor, Ont., native hit .313 with 13 doubles and nine home runs to go along with 43 RBI and 32 walks. Siddall earned Northwoods League Mid-Season All-Star honors, won the Home Run Derby and received Postseason All-Star honors from the league as well. During the 2014 season, Siddall hit .333 with 11 doubles, three triples and three home runs to go along with 43 RBIs en route to being named to the All-MAAC First Team and the MAAC Player of the Week twice.


BASEBALL: The Buffalo Wings Travel Program will be holding tryouts for their 2015 14U team on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Cazenovia Park in South Buffalo. The Wings comprise players from all areas of WNY, and in 2015 will compete in the WNY Boys of Summer Travel League, as well as numerous tournaments in the WNY area. Players with previous travel and tournament team experience are encouraged to attend. To be eligible for the 14U team in 2015, a player may not turn 15 years old before May 1, 2015. BOWLING: Two five-man teams are needed to fill out the 32-team WNY Sealcoat and Supplies men’s bowling league on Monday nights at Airport Lanes. HOCKEY: Cornerstone Ice Arena, the new twin pad ice rink in Lockport, will be home to a Beginner/House Program this year as well as Adult Leagues and Adult Clinics. The Beginner/House Program will begin on Saturday, Oct. 4 and run for 22 weeks for ages 4 and up. The cost of the program is $300 and includes player jersey and two ice times per week on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Team and individual applications are now being accepted for the Adult Leagues forming at the new rink. There will be an over-40 league and Open Leagues of various competition levels. The leagues will run Sunday through Thursday nights. Men and women looking to learn to skate, play hockey or further develop their hockey skills are encouraged to sign up for the Adult Clinic. The clinic will run on Monday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be two 10-week sessions at $120 per session. These are 5-session, once a week programs that will provide fundamental learn-to-skate and play hockey instruction. Total cost is $50. Skates and helmets will be provided at no charge if necessary.
