UB and Canisius honor ‘executives of the year’

The University at Buffalo School of Management and the Richard J. Wehle School of Business at Canisius College have announced their selections of executives of the year.

UB named William G. Gisel Jr., president and chief executive officer of Rich Products Corp., as its 2014 Buffalo Niagara Executive of the Year.

Gisel will receive the award Oct. 28 at the 65th annual School of Management Alumni Association Awards Banquet at Statler City.

Gisel was chosen by past honorees and the alumni association board of directors. They cited his “global perspective, strategic vision and commitment to Western New York.”

Gisel serves on the board of director for UB’s Confucius Institute and is chairman of the board of trustees for the WNED public broadcasting organization. He also serves as a director on the boards for KeyCorp and Moog Inc., and is an advisory board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Gisel is also a trustee of the John R. Oishei Foundation and the Josephine Goodyear Foundation.

Canisius named Ronald J. Tanski, president and chief executive officer of National Fuel Gas Company, for his “professional success and demonstrated broad interest in civic affairs.”

Tanki mentors undergraduate accounting students as a member of the Canisius College Council on Accountancy. He also serves on the board of managers of the Buffalo Museum of Science, the board of directors for the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, and he previously served on and chaired the board of directors for the Western New York/Northwestern Pennsylvania chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

He will be honored at the annual Canisius College Business Awards Dinner on October 14 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens.
