Damage placed at $15,000 in Thomas Street fire

A fire this afternoon in a vacant Thomas Street house remains under investigation, according to Buffalo Fire officials.

Firefighters responding to a 3:47 p.m. call at 8 Thomas were initially told a homeless person occasionally stayed in the house, fire dispatchers said. A subsequent search determined the house was vacant. The fire originated in a first-floor bedroom, officials said.

Damage was estimated at $15,000.
