City, county to receive anti-crime funding

More than $300,000 in federal funding will support crime-fighting efforts in Buffalo.

The U.S. Department of Justice has allocated $306,302, which will partially fund a salary for a prosecutor in the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, who will focus on cases with juvenile defendants. The grant also will fund upgrades and security enhancements to the records management systems maintained by the county and the city and new technology for the city’s 311 system.

Mayor Byron W. Brown said the grant would help provide high police visibility and address juvenile crime.

Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer, both D-NY, announced the grant Wednesday.
