Sheridan surveys could determine eligibility for federal grant funds

SHERIDAN – Residents on Middle and Farmingdale Road are urged to return surveys on income and other statistics by Sept. 1. The surveys could determine whether the town is eligible for grant funding to install water lines and fire hydrants.

Residents on the two rural roads now have their water supply through private wells. Town Supervisor Louis DelMonte said the residents have been asking to be connected to a municipal supply.

“This could be very important to the residents of that district as far as water quality and fire protection,” DelMonte said. He said the town has been looking at ways to finance the water line project, but that the cost would fall on the residents of the district.

The 38 residents were mailed the survey by Municipal Solutions, a firm retained by the town to help compile information for grant funding. The town needs accurate information from at least 36 of the 38 residents in order to use the information.

DelMonte said that if enough information is obtained and incomes are within federal guidelines the town may be eligible for Community Development Block Grant funding. He said the project is estimated at about $500,000.

DelMonte said that residents can be assured that the data collected will be held in strict confidence. Stamped envelopes were provided for the completed documents.

The supervisor said he hopes to know if there is enough data to proceed at the Sept. 8 workshop meeting.
