WHEATFIELD – Niagara County sheriff’s investigators are probing suspected thefts from a Niagara Falls Boulevard heating and cooling company that may date back 12 years.

Authorities said officials of Alongi Mechanical Inc. reported an ex-employee who was laid off Aug. 4 returned his company-issued work vehicle but without some equipment and supplies – prompting a check of business records.

The owner of the business, deputies said, suspects that the man had been working side jobs, using company equipment and supplies, as long ago as 2002, resulting in a loss of revenue. The former employee may have stolen as much as $4,000 worth of freon, authorities said.
