Man goes to prison for Lockport domestic assault

LOCKPORT – A former Town of Lockport resident was sentenced Thursday by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III to one to three years in prison for violating a restraining order by assaulting a woman Oct. 6 in that town.

Gregory J. Peterkin Jr., 29, of Linwood Avenue, Buffalo, had pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal contempt.

“He’s got a violent disposition with people he’s close to,” Assistant Public Defender Alfonso M. Bax said. He admitted that Peterkin, who has fathered three children, has “significant child support issues,” and Murphy noted that Peterkin told a probation officer in a pre-sentencing interview that he smokes 10 to 20 marijuana blunts daily.

“You have a long criminal record, and they’re becoming more and more violent,” Murphy told Peterkin.
