National drive-thru burger chain Checkers opened Monday at 2563 Union Road in Cheektowaga.
Gail Gentry, who has managed Checkers restaurants in Florida for the past 20 years, owns the franchise with her brother, Bill Nowak. Both have relocated to the region to run the business and have an agreement to open at least one more location.
Cheektowaga’s is the first full-sized Checkers restaurant in Western New York. Another in Corfu is located at the Pembroke Travel Plaza, while a third is tucked into the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Checkers is known for having double drive-thrus and limited indoor seating.
The company was established in Mobile, Alabama, in 1986. Its current headquarters is in Tampa, Florida.
