An employee’s summer stipend met opposition from a Board of Education member Tuesday night in the Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District.

The board voted 4-1 to approve a 100-hour, $32-per-hour stipend for Ben Higgins, the district’s webmaster, for computer services in July and August.

Michael Connors opposed the measure because of concerns about the district’s projected $1.6 million shortfall.

“We don’t have that kind of money,” he said afterward.

Board members also authorized hirings for positions such as bus drivers, cleaners, teacher’s aides, clerk typists and monitors.
