SHERIDAN — A Silver Creek man and woman accused of posing as Humane Society personnel at a property on Chapin Road last week were charged with trespassing, Fredonia-based State Police said today.

Police responded to a report of a man and woman looking at a horse inside a barn on the property Thursday.

Kelly Shumaker, 44, and Robert Shumaker, 34, identified themselves as Human Society personnel. Kelly Shumaker told police that she worked for the Humane Society in New Jersey and was there to remove the horse or help the owner care for it.

Police determined that the Shumakers didn’t have any connection to the Humane Society. They were issued appearance tickets for Town of Sheridan Court on Thursday.
