The In Box by Susan Martin: Fun flats for fall

It’s never too early to shop for shoes for the upcoming season. Flats – and nearly flats – are a good transitional choice, especially since they look so cute with rolled-up jeans and other early fall looks. These are all slip-ons, but other flats – including lace-up oxfords – are another trendy option.

A little whimsy: Zelda Embroidered Loafers come in three colors and design options, including acorn on gray, beagle on olive and feather on indigo blue. They are part of Talbots’ fall collection, $109 a pair.

Make a point: Graci Pointy-Toe Flats with piping are anything but ordinary in canyon pink suede or gravel lizard-embossed leather. Priced $119 a pair at or in the Talbots catalog.

Cool for school: Scalloped flats from the Mixit collection come in navy, black or gold. Priced $26 and part of J.C. Penney’s back-to-school collection.

Animal lovers rejoice: There are plenty of prints to choose from. Tasseled shoe is from INC International Concepts, $79.50. The other is from Style & Co., $49. Both are from Macy’s fall collection.

Fancy footwork: Vivian Venetian Flats from Lands’ End come in several patterns including a floral, shimmer camouflage and faux reptile. Priced $69 a pair at
