RAPIDS – A federal grant of $107,383 been allocated to the Rapids Volunteer Fire Company in the Town of Lockport through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, announce.

The grant will be used to purchase new and additional turnout gear for the volunteer company in the wake of a dramatic increase in membership, Collins said. Schumer and Gillibrand noted that the grant will allow the fire company to outfit 50 active members with protective gear.
