Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park (museum, gardens, memorials, docked boats and Liberty Hound restaurant) will be the waterside site for the annual Tribute to Our Troops and fundraiser from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Rotary Club of Buffalo, led by event chairman Paul Marzello, is co-producing the event.
Canalside, Buffalo’s ever-blossoming waterfront cultural attraction, is home to the park and all its attractions. The park is where the large gray USS Little Rock (most prominent on the city’s waterfront), USS The Sullivans, and submarine USS Croaker are docked in Erie Canal Harbor.
Mary Wilson, wife of late Buffalo Bills owner and WWII serviceman Ralph Wilson Jr., is honorary co-chair and will be present for the unveiling of the plaque honoring her husband. Also honored this year, and added to those memorialized within the park, will be Bob Kalsu, a Buffalo Bills Rookie of the Year killed in action during the Vietnam War.
Party in the Park benefits operation expenses for Naval & Military Park. Held throughout the grounds of the park and museum, the event includes live music by The Strangers (fun party cover band), food by Liberty Hound, tours of the museum and its vessels and raffles.
Advance tickets are $50 per person, $85 per couple; at the door, tickets are $65 per person, $100 per couple. Call 847-1773, Ext. 15 or at www.buffalonavalpark.org.
