A fire Wednesday evening in a vacant home on May Street on the city’s East Side was extinguished in about an hour, Buffalo fire officials said.

Firefighters were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. to 316 May, near Doat Street, in response to the report of fire in the two-story, wood-frame structure, officials said. The fire began in the crawlspace, according to fire officials.

Damage was estimated at $30,000. The cause remains under investigation.
