NIAGARA FALLS – Niagara Falls police are investigating claims that a 24-year-old Buffalo woman was robbed by the driver of a car service hired to drive her to Niagara Falls just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim told police she was taken from her home to an address in the 2500 block of Welch Avenue, and charged $50. She siad she gave the unknown driver $10 and ran inside a building to get the rest of the money.

The Buffalo fare said that when she handed over the rest of the money, the driver grabbed her purse and she wasd hit with a shovel and kicked in the stomach during a struggle.

Police said the victim described the vehicle only as a dark SUV. The victim also said the purse contained three packs of cigarettes, a Social Security card, birth certificate and 14 tablets of suboxone. The woman refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
