Teen charged after van collides with motorcycle

ELLINGTON – A 16-year-old driver was charged with failure to yield the right of way after the van she was driving collided with a motorcycle on Thornton Road on Saturday night.

Deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office also charged the driver, Britney L. Clifton of Leon, with unlicensed operation after the 8:30 p.m. accident.

Clifton was driving a van that pulled out into traffic from a parked position and struck a passing Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Gregory P. Livermore, 54, of Dewittville, police said. Both drivers were taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Authorities said the two were released after treatment at the hospital.

Police said Clifton was charged with unlicensed operation because she has a learner’s permit and was driving with a passenger who is under 21 years of age. The passenger was unhurt.
