Five arrested after alleged gang assault in South Buffalo

Five people were arrested on Boone Street in South Buffalo early Sunday after what police described as an alleged gang assault involving brass knuckles and a man being struck with a piece of pipe.

A man and woman were treated in Erie County Medical Center for multiple injuries after the attack, which took place shortly before midnight at a house on Boone Street off South Park Avenue, Buffalo Police reported. The male victim told officers he was struck in the head and face with brass knuckles and a pipe.

Charged with assault were: Amy Maund, 31, of Germania Street; David Soto, 17, of Hopkins Street; Jordan Sullivan, 21, of Mineral Springs Road; Shawn Wilbur, 16, of Boone Street; and Daniel Degnan, 19, of North Division Street.

In a related incident, Louis Soto, 34, was arrested at his residence at nearby Hoplins Street on charges of marijuana possession. Police from the South Park District said officers who were investigating the attack on Boone Street were dispatched to Hopkins to investigate reports of a man with a gun.

Officers said they found no gun at the residence they were sent to, but they said the heavy odor of marijuana led them to find more than a pound of pot and $1,580 in cash at Louis Soto’s home.

Police did not disclose whether Louis Soto and David Soto are related.
