NORTH TONAWANDA – a “bigger and better” version of Thunder on the Niagara, the hydroplane competition in the Niagara River off Gratwick Riverside Park, will be held next Saturday and Sunday, North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt said.
Billed as “the fastest show on water,” the ninth version of Thunder on Niagara features hydroplanes capable of reaching 180 mph. The event is sponsored by the Niagara Frontier Boat Racing Association in partnership with the American Power Boat Racing Association and American Canadian Hydroplane Association.
Food and other vendors will be set up at the site. The park opens at 8 a.m. both days, with the first race beginning at 9:30 a.m. Access the park at the Ward Road entrance.
