LOCKPORT — A Niagara County Sheriff’s Office patrol car with its emergency lights and siren on was struck by a vehicle at 11:26 a.m. Saturday at North Transit and Main streets, injuring a sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.
The deputy, responding to an assault call in the Town of Lockport, was driving south on North Transit when a vehicle headed west on Main Street went around a vehicle that had stopped for the cruiser and into the intersection, striking the deputy’s car, deputies said.
The deputy, whose name was not released, was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, then released, authorities said.
The other driver, William Higgs, 74, of Jupiter, Fla., was not injured. He was charged with failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
