Car audio store owner admits to tax fraud

LOCKPORT – The owner of the Audio One car audio stores in Lockport and Niagara Falls pleaded guilty to a felony Thursday for collecting sales tax from customers but not turning it over to the state.

Loay M. Abdellatif, 45, of East River Road, Grand Island, admitted to third-degree tax fraud. His attorney, James J. Faso Jr., presented a full restitution check of $38,470 to representatives of the Department of Taxation and Finance in the courtroom. The sales taxes were not remitted between June 2009 and August 2012.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. promised he would not send Abdellatif to jail when he returns to court for sentencing Oct. 2.

Public records show Abdellatif’s business, whose legal name is Performance Autosound and Accessories, has faced an assortment of state tax warrants as far back as 2001, and was served with four federal tax liens in 2008 and 2009.
