Canned food drive to aid road march

Food is being collected in Hamburg to support the second annual KIA Memorial Road March – the 10K ruck march through Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard park, on Aug. 23.

Participants in the road march, hosted by Vets For Vets, will carry a minimum of 50 pounds of canned goods in backpacks. The weight can be distributed among the members of teams.

The Town of Hamburg Veterans Committee and the Hogs & Heroes Foundation are supporting the march through a canned food drive.

They have set up canned good drop-off locations for those wishing to donate and help local veterans: Hamburg Town Hall, 6100 South Park Ave.; Post 537, American Legion, 2 Memorial Drive; Post 1419, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2985 Lakeview Road and Hamburg Moose Lodge 992, 45 Church St.

The event was started by Jason Jaskula of the Town of Hamburg, who served as a master sergeant in the Army, as a way to honor those from Western New York killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Money raised helps support veterans organizations in Western New York.
