The grand opening of the new Cabela’s store at 10:45 a.m. Thursday on Walden at the State Thruway is going to cause extremely heavy traffic in and around the sports store throughout the day, Cheektowaga Chief of Police David J. Zack warned motorists.
Police anticipate upwards of 6,000 additional vehicles in an around that section of Walden which is already a congested traffic area, the chief said.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and take an alternate route if they have no business directly in that area. Traffic on the State Thruway in the Cheektowaga area is also expected to be affected by the store grand opening.
Chief Zack said the Kmart parking lot near the new Cabela store will be used for overflow parking and Cheektowaga police will have additional manpower assigned to the area around the Cabela store for traffic control. But the chief stressed that “anyone driving in the area should expect delays.”
