WHEATFIELD – Niagara Hospice will offer volunteer training from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 19 and 20 in Wheatfield Community Center, 2790 Church Road.

Volunteers are needed to assist with meal and comfort-tote deliveries, hairdressing and to visit with patients, in the patients’ or caregivers’ homes, Niagara Hospice House in Lockport and at long-term care facilities. Other volunteer opportunities include helping with community outreach, clerical tasks and fundraising efforts of Niagara Hospice Alliance.

Veterans also are needed to volunteer for “We Honor Veterans,” an initiative of Hospice and WNY Veterans Administration.

Tricia Degan, director of marketing and public relations, said, “Our hospice patients who are veterans often don’t talk about their service, but we have found that when we pair them up with a volunteer who is also a veteran, a special camaraderie is shared and patients find comfort and even relief being able to talk about their experience in the service with another veteran.”

For an application or to register, contact Niagara Hospice’s volunteer office at 280-0748. More information and volunteer applications are also available at www.NiagaraHospice.org.
