WSRC Masters win two goals in Canadian Henley

West Side Rowing Club won two gold medals and reached the podium in four other events as Masters competition on Sunday began a week of competition in the 132nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ont.

Robert Baker in the Men’s Masters G Singles (4:42.973) and Patrick Ballantyne (4:58.631) in the Men’s Masters AA singles and won golds for the West Sides.

Silver medals went to the Women’s Masters B Eight and the Men’s Masters C Eight. Kathryn Vergo, Alexis Jordan, Sarah Anthon, Debra Noonan, Sue Trabert, Christina Saarinen, Kelly Smith, Karen Wiles and coxswain Alex Hamberger constituted the B crew. Baker, Michael Cute, Steve Goodnough, Miles Schwartz, Ray Valeri, Daniel Sullivan, James Hitt, Jacob Jordan and Thomas Dougherty made up the C boat

Earning bronze were the Women’s Masters C Four with coxswain (Trabert, Saarinen, Smith, Wiles and coxswain Hamberger) and the Men’s Masters A Four (Justin Farrington, Ryan Ficorilli, Schwartz, Cute and coxswain Dougherty.

West Side rowers will compete in U23 Senior and U19/17 Junior events starting Tuesday.
