The playoff hopes of the Western New York Flash aren’t dead yet.

Sonia Bermudez scored during the four minutes of stoppage time to give WNY a 4-3 victory over the Boston Breakers Sunday at Harvard Stadium in Alston, Mass., keeping the Flash mathematically alive for another day.

Bermudez’s goal off a feed from Samantha Kerr came after the Flash had blown a 3-1 lead in the second half. A pair of goals by Abby Wambach, in the eighth and 49th minute, and a header by Kerr in the 66th minutes had WNY in front going into the 74th minute. Then the Breakers scored twice within two minutes to forge a tie. First Jazmine Reeves tallied then Kristie Mewis scored her second of the game and second of the season to tie it.

A WNY loss and a tie or win by the Portland Thorns later on Sunday against Houston would have eliminated the Flash from National Women’s Soccer League playoff consideration. WNY (8-11-3) has 27 points in the standings and can max out at 33 by winning its two remaining games. Portland already had 30 points.
