An Amherst man whose car burst into flames and a man from Fulton, N.Y., were both ticketed by the State Police following a four-car pileup about 6 p.m. Thursday at the Scajaquada Expressway interchange with the Niagara Thruway.

With two cars stopped at the interchange ramp, the Amherst driver allegedly couldn’t stop quickly enough and hit one of the stopped cars, with the Fulton driver then striking the Amherst man’s car from behind, police said.

The Amherst man’s car burst into flames and then rammed the first two stopped vehicles. Investigators said the Thruway entrance from the expressway was blocked for less than a half hour and none of the drivers required medical assistance.

The Amherst driver was ticketed for driving too closely and the Fulton driver was ticketed for excessive speed, according to State Police. Their names were not released.
