Canned good drive in Hamburg for veterans

Food is being collected in Hamburg to support the second annual K.I.A. Memorial Road March.

The road march, hosted by Vets For Vets, is a 10K “ruck march” through Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park Aug. 23. Participants will carry a minimum of 50 pounds of canned goods in backpacks. The weight can be distributed among the members of teams.

The Town of Hamburg Veterans Committee and the Hogs & Heroes Foundation are supporting the march through a canned food drive. They have set up drop off locations for those wishing to donate and help local veterans. Canned goods can be dropped off at Hamburg Town Hall, 6100 South Park Ave., Post 537, American Legion, 2 Memorial Drive; Post 1419, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2985 Lakeview Road and the Hamburg Moose Lodge 992, 45 Church St.

The road march was started by Jason Jaskula of the Town of Hamburg, who served as a master sergeant in the Army, as a way to honor military members from Western New York killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan. The march raises funds to help support veterans’ organizations in Western New York.
