Walsh Duffield buys Rochester insurance agency

Walsh Duffield Companies, a Buffalo-based insurance company, has bought part of a Rochester-area agency, giving it a foothold in the Rochester market.

Walsh Duffield has acquired the Stuart G. Smith Agency, LLC, in the Town of Brighton, in partnership with Patrick J. Quinn, the president of the Stuart G. Smith. The firm will now be called the Walsh Quinn Agency, LLC, and Quinn will continue in his role as president.

Walsh Duffield, founded in 1860, is among the top 2 percent largest independent insurance agents in the nation, with 71 employees. It offers personal and commercial insurance products from the nation’s leading carriers to thousands of individual and business clients across the region and the country. Stuart G. Smith, established in 1985, employs four people. And it offers property and casualty insurance to businesses.

Walsh Duffield, which also has an office in Medina, said it plans to increase its presence in the Rochester area by acquiring more firms there.
