Marie A. Kaczmarek, of Hamburg, former director of planning for the Buffalo & Erie County Private Industry Council, died July 17 in Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She was 59.
Born in Lackawanna, she was a graduate of Lackawanna High School and earned a degree in psychology and speech therapy from the University at Buffalo.
Ms. Kaczmarek had a 32-year career with the Private Industry Council, which trained the unemployed, and later with its successor, the Buffalo & Erie County Workforce Investment Board. She retired in 2012.
Skilled at writing grants, she secured numerous multi-million-dollar grants for job training for youth and adults.
She served for six years as a member of the Trocaire College Advisory Council.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Paul Grucza; her mother, Charlotte; three sisters, Joan King, Carol Derylak and Linda; and a brother, Paul.
A memorial Mass was offered July 20 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 5930 S. Abbott Road, Hamburg.
