Next week, Operation Purple, a summer camp program at Pioneer Camp & Retreat Center in Angola, will host 135 children of active duty military personnel.

The camp, which will take place from July 27 to Aug. 1, will offer youngsters adventurous activities, coping skills for deployment-related stress and a chance to get to know kids who are going through similar living situations.

Throughout the week, the campers can scale a 50-foot rope course, go down a 575-foot zipline, swim and boat in Lake Erie, explore Pioneer’s 60 acres of woods, undergo teambuilding on a Low Ropes Course, play camp games and camp out under the stars at night.

In addition to offering lighthearted fun, the camp aims to teach kids about the military. The young ones can watch a helicopter land and explore ships brought in by the Coast Guard.
