Hunter’s Hope medical gathering underway at Holiday Valley

ELLICOTTVILLE – Nearly 50 renowned doctors and scientists are sharing information with Krabbe and leukodystrophy families from around the world at the 16th Annual Hunter’s Hope Family & Medical Symposium at Holiday Valley Resort. Programs began Wednesday and will continue through Tuesday.

This year’s theme is “Kelly Tough,” a phrase that has characterized co-founder Jim Kelly’s recent battle with cancer. Kelly and his wife Jill established the Hunter’s Hope Foundation in 1997 after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with Krabbe leukodystrophy, a fatal nervous system disease.

“When I had to get a feeding tube put in during my chemo and radiation treatments,” Kelly says, “I thought of my son, Hunter, and how I was more like him now. I look up to these kids, because they fight so courageously every day.”

Through support of the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation, Hunter’s Hope is able to underwrite most of the expenses for families who attend, including meals, lodging and conference fees. Hunter’s Hope also helps pay transportation for families who otherwise could not afford to travel.
