Gaffney finishes fifth in state golf championship

Bill Gaffney of Crag Burn shot a 6-over 77 to finish in fifth place at the New York State Amateur Golf Championship at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse.

Gaffney finished with a four-round total of 291, just two shots back. He was slowed by six bogeys. He was coming off Wednesday’s third round 68 that put him in contention.

Luke Feehan of Mahopac Golf Club won the title with a par on the first playoff hole to edge out Bryce Edmister of Braemar Country Club. Both finished at 289. The only other WNY golfer to make the cut was Greg Sibick of Park CC. He shot a 79 to finish in a tie for 38th at 311.

• Ben Reichert defeated Marc Holzhauer 2-and-1 to win the BDGA Junior Boys Match Play Championship at Sheridan Park Golf Course.

• Nolan Codd defeated Luke Stanley 4-and-3 to win the BDGA sub-junior match play championship, at Sheridan.
