A 5-year-old East Aurora girl was being treated Thursday evening in Women and Children’s Hospital for a serious head injury suffered when her bicycle rolled into Main Street in East Aurora and she was knocked onto the curb as the bike hit the rear wheel of a tractor trailer at about 11 a.m.

The little girl, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was waiting to cross Main Street at South William Street with her mother and young sibling at the time of the accident, according to East Aurora police. The victim was taken to the Buffalo hospital by Mercy Flight.

The driver of the tractor trailer, unaware of the injury at the rear of his rig, drove off but returned a short time later to the accident scene. No charges have been filed.
