Rochester Regional Health System announced Wednesday it has reached merger agreements with United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia and Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, Ontario County.

The move is intended to preserve access to a range of health care services and to ensure financial stability in the rural facilities.

The regional system formed July 1 as a union of Rochester General Hospital and the Unity Health System in Rochester. The 131-bed United Memorial in Batavia and 262-bed Clifton Springs are expected to join the system officially by the end of year after state approval is obtained.

Details of the merger agreements were not provided.
