NORTH TONAWANDA – A North Tonawanda woman has been arrested a second time and charged in connection with two fires on her street that were deliberately set – including one at her own home.

Michelle L. Johnston, 41, is charged with arson in the second degree for a fire set early Sunday morning at 7 Fifth Ave. while the residents were home.

She also is charged with arson in the second degree for a fire at 15 Fifth Ave., her own home, set early this morning. An additional charge of falsely reporting an incident has been filed in this incident.

Johnston already is accused of setting nine fires on Fifth Avenue between June 20 and July 9 – eight of them at the home of an 82-year-old neighbor. She is currently jailed pending arraignment on the most recent charges.

Officials said damage to the homes was limited.

“It’s kind of the same thing that’s been going on there with small, minor fires,” said Assistant Chief Joe Sikora of the North Tonawanda Fire Department. “A couple were big, but most have been minor.”
