Falls man jailed in gun case

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who repeatedly failed to report to a probation officer during a period of interim probation on a gun charge was sentenced Tuesday to one year in the Niagara County Jail by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas.

Lecheay A. Renford, 22, of Niagara Avenue, pleaded guilty last year to attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He had a loaded, sawed-off shotgun in his apartment, then on LaSalle Avenue, when police raided it Jan. 24, 2013.

In another case Tuesday, defense attorney Ryan Hanna talked Farkas into a 90-day interim probation term, pending a final sentence, for a Buffalo man who stole more than $1,000 worth of jeans Aug. 11 from Saks Off 5th in the Fashion Outlets, Town of Niagara.

Terence M. Taylor, 19, of Wilkes Avenue, had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny, He has served three jail sentences for larceny in the past two years in Erie County: 30, 45 and 90 days. He also has two probation violations. “He doesn’t learn,” Farkas said. “He’s got quite a record for 19, is all I can say.”
