Daemen College ranks among best college workplaces

A national publication has ranked Daemen College as one of the country’s best colleges for which to work.

The Amherst college was one of 42 in the nation cited as part of The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “honor roll” of workplaces.

The publication designated the school among the top 10 small four-year colleges as a great workplace, based on a survey of more than 43,000 employees at 278 American colleges and universities.

The college was recognized for excellence in nine areas: collaborative governance; compensation and benefits; job satisfaction; respect and appreciation; professional- and career-development programs; supervisor or department-chair relationship; teaching environment; tenure clarity and process; and work/life balance.

Daemen President Gary A. Olson credited the college’s faculty and staff with cultivating a great workplace environment.

“For some reason the chemistry here is very good and people genuinely like each other and want to help each other,” Olson said. “People feel like they’re part of a family, rather than just part of a workplace.”
