Crews from the Erie County Water Authority are working to repair a water main break on Niagara Falls Boulevard at North French Road in Amherst.

North French Road is closed from Old Niagara Falls Boulevard to Niagara Falls Boulevard while crews work, according to Matt Baudo, secretary to the Erie County Water Authority.

Niagara Falls Boulevard has been reduced to three lanes of traffic while the two northbound lanes are torn up to complete repairs, Baudo said. The road’s center lane is being used for northbound traffic. The two southbound lanes remain open.

The break was reported at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

About 12 to 15 customers, including a shopping plaza on Niagara Falls Boulevard and homes on Old Niagara Falls Boulevard, are without water, Baudo said.

Authorities hope water service will resume between 1 and 3 p.m. and all lanes of traffic on Niagara Falls Boulevard will reopen between 3 and 5 p.m.

“Street cutting is taking a little bit longer than usual because of the thickness of the concrete used to build Niagara Falls Boulevard,” Baudo said. “There’s a lot of restoration work to perform once the water is back on.”

Baudo said crews had almost isolated the leak around 9 a.m.
