Bills Training Camp Capsule: Sammy goes deep

Monday: Day 2 of 20.

Highlight: Once again, it was the Sammy Watkins Show. The rookie receiver from Clemson wowed the crowd with his speed, twice getting behind defenders for long touchdown passes from EJ Manuel, once in one-on-one drills and again in 11-on-11 work.

In the spotlight: With the Bills being the first NFL team to open camp, it’s given the national media a chance to visit. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, the NFL Network’s Albert Breer and an ESPN contingent that included Lackawanna native Ron Jaworski and Sal Paolantonio were among the reporters at practice Monday.

Still no Marcell: Coach Doug Marrone said defensive tackle Marcell Dareus had been excused from the team for “personal reasons,” but was expected back by Monday night. When he returns, Dareus will work with the team’s strength coaches, preparing for the conditioning test he’s required to pass before he can rejoin the active roster. Marrone said a decision on when that test will take place will be decided when the team’s conditioning staff feels Dareus is ready.

Schedule: Practice is 8 a.m. today and Wednesday. The team is off Thursday.

Parking: Fans are required to ride shuttles from the nearby lots at Mendon High School and Sutherland High School.
