The back-to-school/college fashion trend reports are arriving, and one shoe style retailers are showing is the slip-on sneaker in fun prints. offers the “Crash Back” striped version from Keds, originally priced about $50.

And at J.C. Penney (, slip-on sneakers from the Arizona brand come in leopard, red/gray plaid or houndstooth, priced $30 a pair.

Entertaining tip

Here’s a cool reminder: Next time you make ice cubes, first drop some fresh or frozen fruit in the tray before covering with water. The August issue of Better Homes and Gardens shows frozen cubes with small chunks of kiwi, raspberries, slivers of lemon and lime, blueberries and other fruit chunks inside.

“Impressive (and delicious) drink dress-ups don’t get much simpler,” the editors write.

New neckwear

Trend-watchers are noting that choker necklaces have made a comeback. Actress Elle Fanning, Naomi Campbell, Lindsay Lohan, even Princess Anne have all recently been photographed wearing one. Chokers also have appeared on the runways, including recent couture shows in France, Italy and Germany. Quite frankly, chokers may not sound appealing in hot weather, but come fall ... who knows?
