Bisons lose seventh straight game

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - It was a lost weekend for the Buffalo Bisons as they fell to Pawtucket, 3-2, completing a four-game sweep by the Red Sox.

Sunday’s loss in front of 7,204 at McCoy Stadium was the Herd’s seventh in a row.

Travis Shaw gave the PawSox all the offense they needed with a three-run home run in the sixth inning. It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Red Sox (55-48).

Buffalo starting pitcher P.J. Walters (2-2) got the first two outs of the sixth before Andres Torres singled. Will Middlebrooks then followed with a slow dribbler to third base for an infield hit. Shaw made the most of the opportunity with the opposite field homer, his eighth of the season.

Walters had retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning.

Middlebrooks, playing in the third game of an injury rehab stint, went 2-for-4 as the DH. He has been on Boston’s disabled list since May 16 and is attempting to return from finger and wrist injuries.

Pawtucket starter Anthony Ranaudo (11-4) tossed 6∏ innings, allowing one run on three hits. The Bisons’ only run against Ranaudo was on a solo homer by Kevin Pillar in the sixth.

Pillar had three of the Bisons’ four hits and scored both runs. His double in the first inning was his 27th, earning him a share of the International League lead.

The Bisons head to Lehigh Valley for a two-game series starting tonight (7 p.m., Radio 1520 AM) then come home for 10 games.

Liam Hendriks (7-1, 2.19 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Bisons while the Iron Pigs are expected to go with David Buchanan (5-1, 3.98 ERA).
