WHEATFIELD – The Wheatfield Town Board voted last week to authorize a lawsuit against the insurance company for the North Tonawanda Little League over danmage caused by a broken sprinkler head.

Town Attorney Robert J. O’Toole said the league’s insurance company has refused to pay for an estimated $10,000 in damage in the Community Center gymnasium.

Supervisor Robert B. Cliffe league patrticipants were practicing in the gym in February, when a ball hit by a coach broke off the sprinkler head, causing water to pour onto the wood floor, causing considerable damage..

He added that the incident is unrelated to the still-unsolved case of hot showers being left running for hours or days in the Youth Center locker room – the resultant steam and humidity causing tile to fall from the walls. The town authorized $9,250 in emergency repairs.
