Frances Marie Marasco, former salon owner and devout Catholic

Frances Marie Marasco, a former salon owner and devout Catholic, died Friday in the Schoellkopf Health Care Center in Niagara Falls. She was 94.

Mrs. Marasco was born in Avon and graduated from Avon High School in 1938. She married Salvatore P. Marasco Sr. on Aug. 9, 1947, in St. Agnes Church in Avon.

They moved to Niagara Falls, and with Mr. Marasco’s brothers and their families, they opened Marasco’s Complete Foods at 1100 19th Street, running the family business from 1949 to 1989.

She worked for Jane’s Beauty Salon and Sibley’s Department Store Hair Salon. Then she and her sister-in-law, Theresa, opened Marasco’s Beauty Salon above the family grocery store in 1951.

Mrs. Marasco was active in St. Joseph Church’s rosary/prayer group, Mother’s Club and other church activities.

Mrs. Marasco is survived by three sons, David, James A. and Salvatore P.; two daughters, Mary Anne Slaiman and Kathleen Culbreth; brothers Charles and Samuel Coniglio; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Prayers will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave.
