Williamsville South leads all-state softball picks

Section VI was well represented on the All-New York State softball team with four first teamers, two Coaches of the Year and one co-Player of the Year. The annual team is chosen by the NYS Sportswriters Association.

The first team selections were Clarence pitcher Katrina Buczkowski in Class AA, shortstop Emily Martin and catcher Stephanie Tirone, both of Class A Williamsville South, and Eden sophomore pitcher Jill Murray in Class B.

Martin was named the Class A co-Player of the Year. Also cited from the state champion Billies was senior third baseman Brianna Clark.

All three South players will compete on the college level as Martin is headed for Geneseo, Tirone will play at Cortland and Clark has chosen Niagara University.

Class B champion Eden also had a pair of second teamers with junior Carly Nasca and sophomore Haley Kobie.

Julie Murphy of Williamsville South and Marisa Fallacaro of Eden were named Coaches of the Year in their respective classes. A total of 31 players were recognized from Section VI.

Making the team as a freshman was Depew’s Karsen Cotton, who grabbed a second team spot in Class B. Toni Polk of Niagara Falls and Moriah Harris of Clarence were second teamers in Class AA.
