It’s ‘Family Movie Night’ at Island Park in Williamsville

Something special is screening at Williamsville’s Island Park on July 18 … But I can’t tell you what it is. It’s not that I don’t want to — it’s a secret. The only guarantee I can make is that the film will not be Michael Bay’s 2005 flop “The Island.”

The element of surprise is fun, to be sure. “Family Movie Night in the Park” attendees are asked to bring blankets, chairs and food. The film starts at dusk, and the evening is sponsored by the Village Youth & Recreation Committee.

Speaking of flops, Johnny Depp’s “Transcendence” screens on July 18 at the University at Buffalo’s North Campus, Amherst. Next up in the summer series is George Clooney’s sleepy but enjoyable “The Monuments Men, on July 22 and July 25 at Baird Point and July 23 at the South Campus on Main Street.

Interestingly, anime film “K Missing Kings” makes its Buffalo premiere at 5:30 p.m. on July 18 at the Screening Room Cinema Cafe (3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst), followed by encore screenings on July 20 and 22. Admission for this special screening is $15.

Transit Drive-In goes Spielberg-y on July 22, with “Gremlins” (which the filmmaker produced) at 9:15 and “Jurassic Park” at 11:30 p.m.

Regal’s Classic Film Series features John Hughes’s oft-screened “The Breakfast Club” at 2 p.m. July 20 and 2 and 7 p.m. July 23 at the Quaker Crossing. The Summer Movie Express series continues at the Quaker Crossing and Transit cinemas with the great “LEGO Movie” on July 22 and the not-so-great “Free Birds” on July 23. Both start at 10 a.m.

Lastly, Bacchus screens Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” and Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike” on July 23 and 24, respectively. OK, I guarantee these two are not screening at “Family Movie Night,” as well.
