Roswell Park is ranked 11, Buffalo General 29 in state

U.S. News & World Report lists two area hospitals among the Top 50 medical centers in New York in the magazine’s latest hospital rankings.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute ranked 11th in the state among all hospitals and 50th in the country among cancer centers, according to the U.S. News 2014-15 Best Hospitals.

The magazine ranked Kaleida Health’s Buffalo General Medical Center tied for 29th in New York with 18 other hospitals. No other local hospitals were ranked nationally or statewide, where Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell took the top spot.

U.S. News is well-known for its rankings of hospitals and university undergraduate and graduate programs, and the magazine has published the hospital rankings for 25 years.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 health care centers in 16 medical specialties of care. The magazine’s analysis relies on objective data, such as patient survival rates, as well as physicians’ views.
